Thought Bubble Convention

Angelo and I will be at the Thought Bubble comic convention this weekend. Please come along to see us, I'll be sketching and Angelo will be tickling people inappropriately with his beard. I have already been asked to do a few convention sketches by people to pick up on the day, so really they are sofa sketches. Hope to see you there.

Happy with these pages

I can never guess from the script which pages I will enjoy drawing the most. Maybe that is because I am not very experienced, I don't know, but I wouldn't have guessed these 2 pages would be my amongst my favourites in the issue. I can't tell from the thumbnails either. which is a shame as I would try and make more pictures I like...

Thank you lovely reviewers.

Comicbastards like nipples on a cover. Freakinawesomenetwork enjoy a bit of monkey violence. 4 issues in and I am really pleased with the reception our comic has had. I think for our first outing as comic creators this has been a decent showing for Angelo and me. We have learned a lot about making comics these past few months. So hopefully season 2 (beginning with issue 6) will be even bigger and better.

Orbital podcast interview

Angelo and I were interviewed by Orbital Comics last week at the Kapow festival. You can here it here Thanks to Orbital Comics.

Another issue has left the shelves and issue 3 is due out next week. I can't wait to see how people react to the action in the upcoming issues. I haven't read the script for issue 5 but I have been warned it's not for the feint of heart.

No Place Like Home Issue#5 Cover Process

The idea for this cover was to suggest the 'see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil' wise monkeys.
I mocked up the cover for issue 5 in Photoshop on the cintiq. Then printed out the mock up and pencilled in blue. Inked it using washes of Indian ink. Then scanned and coloured it in Photoshop again using the cintiq.

Issue 2 came out this week and appears to be selling well. I felt a little more comfortable and happier with the drawing on this issue. Issue 1 was my first comic book and there are a whole load of pages I can't stand to look at. These 2 pages early on in #2 helped me feel a bit more comfortable with the process.

I am drawing #4 at the moment, about 10 pages in and racing against time. Pretty much having to do a page a day pencil and inks.

Thanks from Lizzie

This was a cover option for our reprint of issue 1. We decided against it in the end on the good advice that it might not get on the shelves.

Issue 3 panels

There is so much happening in Issue 3, literally every other panel would be a spoiler. These don't give too much away I hope.

Ian Mckellen

My favourite character in NPLH is Thomas the alcoholic. I found some fantastic reference of Sir Ian Mckellen playing Estragon from Waiting For Godot. I blatantly ripped this performance off for my understanding of Thomas' character.

I didn't go for a likeness just tried to get a bit of a feeling of Ian Mckellens' performance.

Guns and Girls NPLH

This is an unused image from issue 1 of No Place Like Home. This was one of my favourite pages from the issue but after a heavy duty editing session it was binned in favour of a shorter sharper ending. The new ending is much better but I wanted to show this page as it was the first page where I felt I had an idea of what kind of art I wanted to make.

NPLH update

I have just finished the cover for issue 4 which reminded me I have not shown issue 3 yet.

Doctor Who dump

I have added a load of stuff to my deviant art page recently. Its all work from the games Sumo have done over the past 2 years. I had a great time designing the Daleks homeworld, updating characters such as the Rutans and Cybermats as well as storyboarding and matte painting.
